How are fungi able to withstand periods of cold or drought?

I have to answer this for school and I CANNOT find it anywhere plz plz plz help...How are fungi able to withstand periods of cold or drought?
They form spores that fall out of the plant and are inactive forms, rather like seeds, and can withstand the dry and/or cold conditions until things warm up, when they come back to life, as it were.

Some bacteria can also do this trick.
