Cactus Fungus?

I'm in the desert area of California. We've recently had severe fires producing lots of smoke and ash. Those have since come and gone, and my son noticed my Beaver Tail Cactus has a sticky white substance in ';spots'; on the leaves. It reminds me of that marshmellow stuff, we used to put in cocoa (came in a small jar). When I touch it, it stretches off like rubber. I have pics if anyone would like to see. Any idea? Am I going to lose my cactus?HELP...Cactus Fungus?
It is a form of ';milk'; used to assist in protection for the plant, it is very poisonous but can also be used to help with a toothache :)Cactus Fungus?
